John Rowlands was educated at Holyhead County Secondary and the University College of North Wales, Bangor. He graduated in 1952. and was awarded an MA in 1960. He was appointed Deputy Director for Education for the Anglesey Education Committee and following local government reorganisation he became Deputy Director for Education for the county of Gwynedd. He was awarded the OBE for services to Education when he retired in 1987. He was a Vice President of the Anglesey Antiquarian Society and a former Chairman of the Anglesey Magistrates. He died at the age of 83.
