Scope and Content

Typescript drafts of 13 short stories by Enid Blyton, with a contents page listing all 13 stories. The typescripts are not annotated, but the contents page bears the manuscript note ' 'Moral' book for Gibbs. Sent Jan. 1960'. This suggests Blyton hoped to publish these stories, which had all been previously published in her 'Sunny Stories' and 'Playways' magazines, as a single collected volume. That single volume does not appear to have been published, but these stories were later republished in the short story collections 'Stories for Monday' and 'Stories for Tuesday' (Oliphants, 1962).

The file contains drafts of the following stories:

- 'Penny a Grumble' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 519, 2 November 1951)

- 'You Help Me, and I'll Help You' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 516, 21 September 1951)

- 'Speak Out!' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 502, 9 March 1951)

- 'A Hole in Her Pocket' (first published 'Playways', April 1952)

- 'A Tale of Two Boys - and a Kitten!' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 512, 27 July 1951)

- 'Mr Squiggle' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 505, 20 April 1951)

- 'They Didn't Do What They Said!' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 498, 12 January 1951)

- 'A Tale of Two Cowards' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 479, 31 March 1950)

- 'Little Dog Trotter' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 482, 12 May 1950)

- 'Buttons and Bows' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 493, 13 October 1950)

- 'It Serves Them Right!' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 476, 17 February 1950)

- 'The Little Tease' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 137, 25 August 1939)

- 'She Never Could Remember' (first published 'Sunny Stories' no. 469, 11 November 1949)

The file also contains a manuscript note in Blyton's hand which reads '2 sets of stories. Find out if these were in fact made into books?'. This note refers to the contents of this file, and of the previous file in this sub-series, EB/01/09/01 Sunday Mail nature stories.
