Scope and Content

Typescript copies of Wilkinson's first annual report as Director of the Department. The research workers along with their investigations were Mr Somerford (effect of histamine on blood sugar concentration), Miss Stephen ('post-anaesthetic metabolism'), Mr H. E. Martin (study of the hepatic function), Dr William Brockbank (occupational incidences of primary cancer of the lungs and bronchi), and Wilkinson (certain gastro-intestinal conditions, pernicious anaemia, and Raynaud's Disease).

Attached to the end of the report is a report to the Clinical Investigations & Research Committee on research work done in the cardiographic laboratory, MRI during the year. This includes reports on the work of Dr C. Bramwell and Dr R. Ellis on the cardiovascular mechanism of athletes at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928, the continued investigations of Bramwell and Ellis into certain groups of cardiac cases treated at the MRI, research of Miss Norah Regan and Dr Bramwell concerning cardiac complications of pregnancy and labour, Bramwell's investigation into effect of dust in cardrooms on the cardio-respiratory system in cotton workers, and finally the investigation of the recording and interpretation of the cardiac and Korotkow sounds by Mr Fenton Braithwaite.
