Travels

Scope and Content

Whilst working as Director of Haematology at the Manchester Royal Infirmary Wilkinson undertook two international tours, one of Japan and South East Asia and another of Central and South America, both in the early 1960s and nearing the end of his professional career. The tours were intended as an opportunity for Wilkinson to attend international conferences and give lectures to other medical professionals and students on areas of haematology. Aspects of the tours were also heavily supported by the British Council who encouraged him to advise other organisations on clinical teaching and haematological services. Whilst primarily a professional tour Wilkinson also took the opportunity to visit a number of key tourist sites, in particular the zoos and botanical gardens of the different regions.
