Accidental Death

Scope and Content

A copy of a post mortem report by Professor G.R. Cameron carried out on W/O H. Hutchings who died in December 1943 as a result of an accident with a gas mine in Chichester. The report is sent to Wilkinson by the Physiological Section, Chemical Research Department, Experimental Station, Porton (part of the Ministry of Supply) for Wilkinson's interest, presumably in connection to the work he was undertaking on mustard gas workers for the Ministry of Supply at the same time. The accompanying letter indicates that this is the second such casualty.

Included in the file is also a print from the website www.bishopstonatwar.co.uk/ww2-service-men/arthur-grice/ which relates the story of Arthur Leslie Grice who also died as a result of an accident with mustard gas in Chichester in October 1943.
