Many of the case files under this classification appear to have had several arrangements. Some of those originally given a C 173 plus letter (e.g. C 173E) classification have been re-filed alphabetically by initial of the surname of the case, under district. As a result of this, there is a 'Welsh box' for which names A-J survive, and a 'Durham box' (which includes Newcastle) for which I, O-S, and W survive. Obviously many case files have been destroyed. On the outside of the paper document file-case which contained the majority of the files, was written 'Cases 173. B.C.D.E.F.G.H.I. eliminated '36'.
