Scope and Content

Papers concerning individual sites in which the Trust had involvement, either as formal nature reserves, under management agreements or as sites of potential interest 1933-2012. Most files contain correspondence, maps, management plans and minutes.


The 'Sites' subfonds is arranged in chronological order of the date of the Trust's formal acquisition of a site, or the formalisation of their involvement in a management agreement site.

Access Information

Records are open to the public, subject to the overriding provisions of relevant legislation, including data protection laws. 24 hours' notice is required to access photographic material.

Acquisition Information

The majority of site files were deposited with the Borthwick Institute by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in 2013. Further deposits were made in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Physical Characteristics and/or Technical Requirements

Some files contain additional audiovisual material on compact disc, as well as data files on floppy disc. Access to such material may be restricted due to technical requirements; please contact the Borthwick Institute in advance.

Conditions Governing Use

A reprographics service is available to researchers. Copying will not be undertaken if there is any risk of damage to the document. Copies are supplied in accordance with the Borthwick Institute for Archives' terms and conditions for the supply of copies, and under provisions of any relevant copyright legislation. Permission to reproduce images of documents in the custody of the Borthwick Institute must be sought.

Appraisal Information

The site files were weeded for duplicates by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust staff prior to deposit and material of insufficient archival value has been removed. Any such material has been returned to Wakefield for storage.
