Annual Reports of the Registrar of Co-operative Societies

Scope and Content

Reports compiled by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies. Sometime between 1962 and 1969 a Co-operative Department was established to oversee co-operative development. In 1977 the Co-operative Department was removed from the administration of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Co-operatives and became an autonomous Ministry under the control of the Minister of State for Co-operatives. The reports carry details of the progress of co-operation across the country for the stated period and are particularly rich with statistical data. Often an historical background of the co-operative movement in the country is included at the beginning of the reports along with details regarding staffing. Further details of visiting dignitaries and fellow co-operators are generally noted along with the recording of any overseas training courses attended by staff members.
