Reports of the Registrar of Co-operative Societies

Scope and Content

Reports compiled by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, or later the Commissioner for Co-operative Development. The reports carry details regarding all aspects of co-operation across the colony for the stated period and are particularly rich with statistical data. A general overview of progress during the year is followed by detailed analysis of all forms of co-operation in the colony. Included at the beginning of the report is a brief historical background of the co-operative movement in the country, noting that Hong Kong's first Registrar of Co-operative Societies was appointed in May 1950. Further details regarding the staff, visits from dignitaries and fellow co-operators and any overseas training courses attended by staff members are included.
