HENLEY LABOUR PARTY

Scope and Content

These records, which cover the years 1939-83, are mainly correspondence files, minutes and financial material of Henley Constituency Labour Party. Within this division were several branch groups at various times, these being: Benson, Berinsfield, Caversham Park, Chalgrove, Chinnor, Henley North, Henley South, Littlemore, Shiplake & Harpsden, Sonning, Thame, Watlington, and Whitchurch & Goring.

As well as files relating to specific branches, the collection also includes papers of the party at District, County, Regional and National levels. In listing this archive, the sub-group numbers have been allocated to reflect these different tiers. The catalogue has therefore been set out as follows:

O4/1 Henley Constituency Labour Party (including branches)

O4/2 South Oxfordshire District Labour Party

O4/3 Oxfordshire County Labour Party

O4/4 Southern Regional Council of the Labour Party

O4/5 National Labour Party and Other Regional Parties

This arrangement is somewhat artificial, since a number of files contain letters and other papers from more than one source. For example, folders in section O4/1/C contain circulars on various issues from Regional and Central Party offices, as well as documents dealing with more local concerns.

This archive was deposited in March 1990 and assigned accession number 3049.
