Strickland Papers

Scope and Content

Diaries, logs and papers of Sir William Strickland and his son Eustachius Strickland. Includes:

-William Strickland's diaries and log of his voyage to America

-Strickland Family Papers - papers of William and Eustachius Strickland on a wide variety of subjects - history, agriculture, botany, law, and religion. Compiled or written in the 18th and early 19th centuries, but the subject matter dealt with covers a historical period from 921BC-1830.

Custodial History

The Strickland collection was transferred to York Archives from the Yorkshire Museum in October 1971. The edited collection of Sir William Strickland's journal of a tour of the USA (1794 - 1795) was deposited on 16th May 1996.
