Lucy Cavendish College Oral History

This collection comprises oral history recordings and a verbatim transcript of personal reminiscences recalling the establishment of the Dining Group, the struggle for recognition by the University, and the early days of Lucy Cavendish Collegiate Society in the 1950s and 1960s, from three members of the Dining Group and founding fellows of the College.

Lucy Cavendish College was founded in 1965 as the Lucy Cavendish Collegiate Society. Its origins can be traced back to 1950 and the establishment of The Society of Women Members of the Regent House who are not Fellows of Colleges, also more informally known as the Dining Group. Kate Bertram, Anna Bidder and Eileen Clifford were all members of the Dining Group and they all subsequently became founding fellows of the College, with Anna Bidder becoming its first President.

The collection is open for consultation by researchers using Lucy Cavendish College Archive. A prior appointment and proof of identity are required.
