File: "Freedom in the Academic Community"

File containing material relating to 'Freedom in the Academic Community' - a manifesto prepared by Cox and other Black Paper contributors which was published in the Times on 23 November 1970 along with the names of 154 signatories (all academic staff from British universities). The file consists of correspondence with academic staff from universities in Britain and abroad. It includes: letters of support written following the initial publication of the manifesto; letters written in response to an appeal by Cox for further signatories published in the Times on 26 November; signed copies of the manifesto; and correspondence generated during Cox's attempts to augment the list of signatories during December 1970 and early January 1971. Also includes a small number of letters on other education-related issues.
