Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Association of Master Lightermen and Barge Owners (Port of London) was formed in 1889, although there is evidence that a less formal association existed from 1872. It merged with the River Association for Freight and Transport (formed in 2000) on 1 January 2001.
Headquarters moved from Central House, London E15, to 69-75 Cannon Street, London EC4N 5AB, on 2 December 1991.
