Scope and Content

Eight boxes containing a large collection of letters and documents written or signed by 393 notable people, British and foreign, including monarchs, members of the nobility, politicians, military men, divines, philosophers, writers, artists, engravers, architects, mathematicians and scientists. Many of the documents have considerable literary, political, religious or historic interest. Numerous portraits and related engravings, coats of arms and printed notices are inserted. There is no apparent arrangement to the items.
