Notebook containing lecture notes and study questions relating to political subjects (e.g. 'The Communist Manifesto', and 'Poetry and Politics'), but also notes relating to Upward's political practice (e.g. World Trade Unions Conference, London, 6-17 February 1945).
Also, towards the back of the notebook, Upward has drafted a position statement with regard to Communist Party policy (to be delivered to the Dulwich Branch Committee on 30 September 1947). The statement was a prelude to his eventual resignation from the Communist Party of Great Britain.
For the finished statement, in typescript (together with a companion statement by Upward's wife, Hilda), and a letter (1949) confirming his resignation, see Add MS 89002/3/11.
