Newspaper cuttings from the Cardiff Times, Bristol Mercury, The Standard, The Mining Journal and Western Mail on the following topics: locomotive development and railway news; coal business; navel accidents; industrial development and accidents; legal matters; foreign and domestic politics; deaths of prominent figures (including the death of Lord Tredegar in 1875); completion of the Atlantic Telegraph; proposed engineering projects; general city news; strikes; the opening of Alexandra docks; lists of landowners; invention of the electric light; and walking diaries. The volume also includes various miscellaneous documents relating to Alexander Bassett [civil and mining engineer who worked for Lord Tredegar], including letters, a passport, orders of service and telegrams.
