As part of a tour following their coronation, King George V and Queen Mary came to the south Wales coalfield and visited the Lewis Merthyr Colliery. The collier boy [R. Morris?] on the right, due to make a presentation, overcome by shyness. Photograph by Chapman of Swansea.

The picture shows the Queen seated in a converted coal truck which is pulled by a pit pony.
