Administrative / Biographical History
Following publicity given to the case of Pickles vs National Coal Board (March 1970) generated by the Solicitors, W H Thompson, acting on behalf of Pickles, proceedings were started against the National Coal Board throughout the country. Before the cases could get to trial, the inspection and examination of the Board’s documents had to take place. Files were consulted at Divisional, Area and Colliery levels and there were also over 3000 files at headquarters level to be consulted. [Information taken from memoranda dated 31 Aug 1972 in file DNCB/4/2/3].
