Series 1: annual reports, 1971-1976 and monthly reports, 1971-1980

Series 2: General Executive Committee minutes, 1970-1985

Series 3: conference reports 1972-1988

Series 4: rule books, 1971-1983

Series 5: national labour agreements, 1971-1992

Series 6: membership and other papers. Papers relating to membership of the union including membership cards, application forms, leaflets about the union and apprentice log books. Also shop stewards card, induction course and handbook. Other papers including correspondence, papers relating to strikes and the Silentnight strike and papers relating to the amalgamation with the GMB.

Series 7: branch records including minutes of High Wycombe branch and London district and a report of the London district - 'Beneath the veneer'

Administrative / Biographical History

The Furniture, Timber and Allied Trades Union (FTAT) was formed in 1971 from an amalgamation of the National Union of Furniture Trade Operatives and the Amalgamated Society of Woodcutting Machinists. In 1978 the National Union of Musical Instrument Makers (1894) joined the union. In 1991 FTAT merged with the GMB.
