Administrative / Biographical History

The South Wales and Monmouthshire Colliery Examiners' Association first attended a conference of the General Federation of Colliery Firemen of Great Britain on 14 January 1911.

On 27 March 1918, the Colliery Examiners signed an agreement with the Monmouthshire and South Wales Coal Owners Association to establish a joint conciliation board. This was later called the Board of Conciliation for the Owners and Officials of Collieries in South Wales and Monmouthshire. The Board had ten representatives from each association and acted as a forum for the conciliation of disputes and to determine remuneration.
