Scope and Content

Letters from John Smart in America to his mother, pasted into scrapbooks with additional material, including postcards, photographs, newscuttings and printed items, with comments and explanations by Smart.

MS.Add.8663: Typescript copies of letters of 1932-1933, 160 pages. There is an introduction at the front of the volume, 12 August 1934. In a wallet at the back are a number of loose items, including a 'Report on work during the academic year 1932-33 by John Smart'. Pages 138-160 are unused.

MS.Add.8664: Typescript copies and original manuscript letters covering 1952-1953, 160 pages. Inserted at the front of the volume are the 'Diary of British Columbia trip', 20 pages, and 'Diary of Mexican trip', 16 pages. Pages 140-160 are unused.
