Scope and Content

The Jevons Society was the student society for the Faculty of Economic and Social Studies. It wasoriginally founded as the Economics and Commerce Society in 1907, but changed its name at some timeafter (it was named after the economist William Stanley Jevons, a former staff member.) Its aimswere to encourage "extra-curricular study of economics, politics and kindred subjects..."[Constitution 1956]. It was associated with AIESEC [VSS/1/5], whose officers sat ex-officio on thegeneral committee.

During the 1960s and 1970s, the Jevons Society issued a newsheet, DoverSoul (see UMP/2/21.
