Sir Charles Dilke 1843-1911
Dilke was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He was Senior Legalist (headof Law Tripos), 1865. Dilke was twice Vice-President and twice President ofthe Cambridge Union Society. He was a barrister at Middle Temple, and MP(Liberal) for Chelsea, 1868-1886 and Forest of Dean 1892-1911. From 1880 to1882 he was Under-Secretary of State Foreign Affairs, 1880-1882; PresidentLocal Government Board, 1882-1885; Chairman Royal Commission for Negotiationswith France, 1880-1882; Chairman Royal Commission for Housing of theWorking-Class 1884-1885; Chairman Select Committee on Income Tax, 1906.
