Administrative / Biographical History

These notebooks, which belonged to Edward Reeve of Earlsmere Avenue, Balby, were given to Balby Library by his son during a series of local history meetings held there in March 1999. They were passed on at his request to Doncaster Archives. Mr Reeve was involved through the Balby Road Methodist Church in planning and setting up a local scheme for the care of people made homeless by bombing or air raids during the Second World War. He was one of the superintendents of the Methodist church group which cooperated with other church and school groups to set up a local centre at Balby. These notebooks refer to general arrangements made in the setting up of various local centres, as well as for the centre at Balby, and the allocation of duties for volunteers from Balby Road Methodist Church
