Blue folder, labelled 'Claudius film treatment Sept 1957', binding together ts and ms draft treatments:- - Ts draft first film treatment, entitled 'Claudius the Fool' in ms Ts draft with ms annotations. Pages numbered 1 to 84. Draft enclosed in manilla envelope addressed to Graves and postmarked 24 July 1957. - Ms notes Ms notes in an unidentified hand, responding to comments made by Sally [Chilver?] on matriarchy and myth. 2 leaves; pages numbered 1 to 4. - Ms draft first film treatment The draft is assembled in seven ms sequences. The first sequence consists of pages numbered 1 to 15, covering scenes 1 to 10. Pages 12 to 15 use the versos of pages 109 to 106 of a ts draft, with ms annotations in the hand of Karl Gay, of 'Pharsalia'. The foot of page 109 has been torn away. The second sequence consists of pages numbered 1 to 8, 9 [also 23], and 10 to 21, covering scenes 16A and 11 to 39. Pages 1, 5 to 14, and 17 to 21 use the verso of pages 116, 105 to 96, and 49 to 45 of a ts draft, with ms annotations in the hand of Karl Gay, of 'Pharsalia'. Pages 2 to 4 use the versos of pages 4 to 2 a ts draft, with ms annotations in the hands of Graves and Karl Gay, of 'The Road to Rydal Mount'. Pages 15 and 16 use the versos of pages 6 and 5 of a ts draft, with ms annotations, of 'Legitimate Criticism of Poetry'; pages 6 and 5 each bear a pasted ts fragment. The third sequence consists of pages numbered 1 [also 36], 2 to 6, 7, 8 ["7" scored through], and 8, covering scenes 40 to 61. These nine pages use the versos of pages 44 to 36 of a ts draft, with ms annotations in the hand of Karl Gay, of 'Pharsalia'. The fourth sequence consists of pages numbered 1, 2, 4, 3, 5 and 6, covering scenes 62 to 68. These six pages use the versos of pages 35, 34, 32, 33, 31 and 30 of a ts draft, with ms annotations in the hand of Karl Gay, of 'Pharsalia'. The fifth sequence consists of pages numbered 1 to 9, 11, 10, and 12 to 15, covering scenes 69 to 102. These fifteen pages use the versos of pages 27, 72 to 65, 63, 64, and 62 to 59 of a ts draft, with ms annotations in the hand of Karl Gay, of 'Pharsalia'. The sixth sequence consists of pages numbered 1 to 16, covering scenes 103 to 120. These sixteen pages use the versos of pages 29, 58 to 50, and 144 to 137 of a ts draft, with ms annotations in the hand of Karl Gay, of 'Pharsalia'. The seventh sequence consists of pages numbered 1 to 9, covering scenes 121 to 143.
