Scope and Content

Albumen print photograph by James Valentine of High Street, Nairn, Highlands. The view is along a wide street with pavements at each side. There is a horse-drawn cart to the right and a number of people standing looking at the photographer. There is a conspicuous bronze statue [of John Grigor MD] in the left foreground of a standing man with a hat and a walking stick. Behind the statue is a wall with trees rising above it. The street is lined with stone buildings, mostly commercial premises including "Honeyman's Warehouse and W & G Falconer Grocer".
A fairly ordinary composition and an example of a later JV image possibly taken by a hired photographer.
An Imperial size commercial view scrap for sale to tourists and visitors. The title is in white lettering from the negative in the centre bottom edge.
