To his mother describes a trip to Quetta where stayed with the Resident, Sir Aubrey Metcalfe [1883-1957, chief commissioner of Baluchistan]; (in a note Ridgway says Metcalfe's sons were Wykehamists - one John was a prisoner, other Pat was in the Indian Army). He mentions that evidence of the Quetta earthquake is still visible and not all rebuilding complete. Adds it is much colder in Quetta than Delhi. [Note appended that he and his wife were holidaying in Austria in 1951 when he met John Metcalfe, who later went into the drinks trade].
