To his mother, has received her letter along with the enclosed letter from Walter Oakeshott [1903-1987, Oakeshott had taught at Winchester during the 1930s, later returning there as headmaster; at the time he was High Master of St Paul's School].

He has also received a letter from Mrs Acworth, whose Wykehamist son is a prisoner of war; has some news from Dick Roseveare in Sudan. Ridgway has been spending time in Lahore overseeing German interpreters examinations where he headed board of examiners. Stayed there with Conrad Corfield [who Ridgway appears to know from Bradfield], who is highly thought of. Meeting with Lady Linlithgow [Vicereine], discussing her sons [Charles and John]. Gives a brief description of Auchinleck's bearer, Lal Din: "He is a remarkable man with great learning about Indian history..."
