Administrative / Biographical History

The union was known as the Guild of Insurance Officials for much of its existence. It was founded in 1919 and changed its name to the Union of Insurance Staffs in 1969. In 1970 the union transferred its engagements to the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs.

Archivist's Note

The archive has been given the classification MSS.79 together with a unique suffix to indicate that it is a constituent part of the papers of the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs (now part of Manufacturing, Science, Finance) . There are several related deposits at the Modern Records Centre and these are listed under the entry for the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs (MSS.79/AS) .

An authority file exists for the Union of Insurance Staffs (GB 152 AAR1051) and its predecessor, the Guild of Insurance Officials (GBR 0152 AAR1052).
