Women and Physics

Scope and Content

Documents relating to the Women and Physics programme at Manchester and other universities. The programme was conceived by the Department in 1982 to encourage girl students to pursue physics at A level and beyond. Events were held just after the completion of 'O' levels/GCSEs to influence 'A' level choice. Women and Physics involved residential and day schools with lectures, practical work and careers advice. The events proved highly successful and continued into the 1990s. The documents include Professor John Willmott's files relating to the project, publicity, reports and evaluations of the project, and associated publications.
