From [?] Maurice to F. Baker, headed 'Private'. Maurice writes that he has not yet heard the Bolton news and explains that he could not make it to Baker's charity sermon as he was in Manchester. He goes on to say that he had no desire to hear the appointed preacher as he had a low opinion of him, though they had never met, what he heard from others was enough to deter him. He recalls a story he heard relating to this man [Harris?] that had tragic consequences for those involved and warns Baker that he thinks Harris will cause mischief at Bolton, and advises him to be ready to send him away. He reiterates that the ill feelings he has towards Harris are not personal.
