Administrative / Biographical History

The National Association of Probation Officers was established in 1913. It joined with other professional groups to form the Standing Conference of Organisations of Social Workers in 1962 but decided not to join British Association of Social Workers in 1970.

Arrangement

The archives of BASW's predecessors were listed before their deposit in the Centre. A published catalogue is available for purchase. The archives of the different organisations are distinguished by different initials.

Access to membership applications files is restricted under the Data Protection Act of 1998.

This collection was deposited in the Centre by the British Association of Social Workers, 17 July 1997.
