Letters (4) from Thos. Painter at London and Bath to his sister Mrs Mary Anne James at Hope St., Wrexham

Scope and Content

Congratulations on her marriage, and on choosing a tour thro' Wales for her honeymoon; news of Wrexham friends; is pleased with the shirts; their aunt is about to return to [St. James'] Palace (wide alibi); has attempted to place a friend in employment "with some of our binders", of which there are 200 - 300 unemployed in London at present; hopes their brother John will find a wife soon. In October, he has been ill, and has gone to Bath; by November his health has improved; he must return to London in early December, and does not think he can therefore visit Wrexham as planned. The final letter is from Ambassadors' Court [St. James' Palace]; the shirts and the mutton have duly arrive! Hopes to leave for Kent shortly; trusts his bilious fever will not recur, and has armed himself with "flannel, chamois leather waistcoat etc."; hopes she will write to him at 13 Ave Maria Lane on his return to London
