Administrative / Biographical History
Burgess moved to Monaco with his wife, Liana, and their son, Andrew, in the summer of 1975. Burgess was first introduced to Princess Grace of Monaco in July 1978 by the violinst, Yehudi Menuhin, whom he had known since the 1960s. When Princess Grace died in 1982, Burgess was asked to write an obituary piece about her for the Observer in London and he was also involved in plans to open the Princess Grace Irish Library in Monaco, which was founded in memory of her dedication to culture and the arts. Burgess delivered a speech at the opening of the library.
