File containing a partial transcript by an unknown author of an untitled lecture by Burgess and of an informal seminar with him

Scope and Content

The documents are titled "Anthony Burgess Lecture" and "Anthony Burgess Seminar". A note (by the typist) to the title page of the former indicates the difficulties that were experienced in transcribing the lecture, which has lead to a number of gaps in the transcript. (The typist attempted to record not only the content of the lecture, but also the questions and answers which followed.)

Burgess describes the aim of the lecture as "[to tell] you something about the smaller details of the sense of bedevilment - the sense of frustration - which accompanies the working and creative art like novel writing." The purpose of the seminar is described as providing "a rare opportunity of talking with Anthony Burgess."

Physical Characteristics and/or Technical Requirements

Slight damage due to foxing, particularly to the title page.
