Administrative / Biographical History

Doctor Selavy's Magic Theatre opened off-Broadway in New York in 1972/1973 with music composed by Stanley Silverman and lyrics by Tom Hendry. The musical, theatrically conceived and staged by Richard Foreman, has no dialogue and instead uses the score and choreography to tell the story of a man named Ben, who is put through a series of treatments by Dr. Selavy (a pun on "c'est la vie") over five days.

An album of the Lenox Arts Center production of the musical was released in 1974 with sleeve notes by Burgess.
