Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
In the 1970s, Burgess was commissioned to adapt two novels by the novelist, Mary Stewart, titled "The Crystal Cave" (1970) and "The Hollow Hills" (1973), for film or television. (The novels went on to form part of a quintet of Arthurian novels by Stewart.)
The Crystal Cave is a re-telling from Merlin's point of view of his childhood and youth up to the time of Arthur's conception, and, in The Hollow Hills, Merlin recounts Arthur's birth and boyhood until he is made king.
