Puma (Cat Day), or Lynx

Scope and Content

Burgess was commissioned by the film companies Paramount and Universal to write a screenplay for a futuristic remake of the 1951 science fiction thriller When Worlds Collide (which was itself based on the 1932 novel by Philip Wylie and Edwin Palmer). Burgess produced screenplays under the titles Puma (Cat Day) and, subsequently, Lynx.

Although the scripts produced by Burgess were unused, his 1982 novel, The End of the World News, is in part based on them.

The series contains an outline (by Universal Pictures) for a proposed major science fiction film; a synopsis by Joan Southerden Orihuela of When Worlds Collide and After Worlds Collide; and drafts of Burgess's screenplay.
