This series largely consists of portraits of Burgess. It also includes:
1) publicity shots from performances of Oedipus the King and Cyrano de Bergerac at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis;
2) rehearsals for the concert performance of King Oedipus, for Speaker, Chorus, and Orchestra at the Whitney Museum in New York;
3) location shots of Burgess taken during the filming of documentaries such as "Musik und Ballett" for Hessischer Rundfunk and "Writers and Places: A Kind of Failure" for the BBC;
4) press interviews at the Cannes film festival.
Among those photographed alongside Burgess are his first wife, Lynne; his widow, Liana; their son, Andrew Burgess-Wilson; members of the Monagasque Royal Family; and John Boorman, Graham Greene, Pierre Joannon, Stanley Silverman, John Simon, Sheamus Smith, and Bertrand Tavernier.
Subjects are photographed in a variety of settings (domestic and otherwise) in countries such as America, France, Italy, Monaco, Sweden and the UK. In most instances, it has been possible to identify the photographer: among those featured are
