XIVth Olympiad, London 1948, and Wembley Stadium

Scope and Content

Pastel design, apparently for an Olympic poster; and two b/w photographs of a finished version of this design, signed by HAR using the name 'Holt'.

Three examples of the 1948 Olympic Games postal franking mark, postmarks dated 18 December 1947, 3 March and 7 July 1948, one on an envelope addressed to HAR.

6 copies of the official programme for the Opening Ceremony of the XIVth Olympiad, London 1948, for which HAR designed the cover. Two b/w prints showing the opening ceremony.

Stored with print for events at Wembley Stadium: 2 copies of a flyer and 1 programme for ice hockey, Sep-Nov 1946; menu for dinner at the Empire Pool, February 1948, featuring same ice hockey logo; two copies of a flyer for the World Table Tennis Championships, February 1948; blank sheets, possibly menu cards as they match the format of the previous example, with logos for greyhounds and speedway at the Empire Stadium (3 of each).

Administrative / Biographical History

"A design for a special Opening Ceremony programme was submitted by Mr. H. A. Rothholz. The cover design was approved, but it was decided that the inner pages should not be illustrated as had originally been suggested.  Instead a plain make-up was adopted."
