Scope and Content

Material relating to commissions for posters for the General Post Office (GPO) and Post Office Savings Bank (POSB):

Correspondence, 9 July 1942 - 31 March 1944, regarding commissioning of and payment for various poster designs, a kiosk sticker and an exhibit. Includes information about fees paid for the work. With a franked envelope fragment (16 pieces).

Mounted original artworks for 'Buy stamps in books' (1955) and another poster for POSB, which may never have been used (2 pieces).

14 b/w photographs of posters and other artwork by HAR for the Post Office (12 pieces).

1 colour transparency of a POSB poster

6 colour photographs of HAR's mail van posters 'Post Office Savings Bank' and 'Catch the noon post' (1942-3) as featured in an exhibition at the Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne, February-March 1985, with an envelope annotated to this effect. 2 of the photographs are contained in clear-front pockets designed for the Royal Mail's 'Britain's second series of miniature sheets'. (7 pieces excluding pockets).

Dummy Savings Bank Account Book and 6 books of stamps, perhaps for reference or use in designs, as in 'Buy stamps in books'; with envelope from the British Philatelic Bureau, Edinburgh.
