Ms and ts drafts of Graves's address, given in French, to the Poetic Congress at Lake Balaton, Hungary. Graves responds to the conference theme of poetry, war and the new technique which war imposes on poetry. The date of the address was probably May 1970: although the latest draft is marked as 1969, an inserted slip refers to 1970, and Martin Seymour-Smith in 'Robert Graves: His Life and Work' (London: Abacus, 1983) records that Graves travelled to Hungary for a poetry congress on 1 and 2 May 1970 (p. 561). This is not the 'Address to the Poets of Hungary' published in 'Difficult Questions, Easy Answers'.
