Clayton, Sir Iltyd Nicholl (1886-1955) Knight, Brigadier

Born 15 Sept. 1886, son of Lt.-Col. W.L.N. Clayton. Educated at Lancing College and Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. Served in Royal Artillery, 1914-19; operations in Iraq, 1920; attached Iraq Army, 1921-28; Middle East Temp. Brig. (MI) Cairo, 1940-43; Adviser on Arab affairs, Minister of State, 1943-45; Adviser to Head of British Middle East Office till 1948; attached British Embassy, Cairo, 1947-48, as Minister. Married 1917 Marjorie Clemence Duke - 1 son, 2 daughters. Died 30 June 1955.
