Old Lace Designs - Paisley Style

Scope and Content

Very old drawings and paintings on both fine, graph, and tracing paper, attached on both sides to large sheets of paper, annotated with weaving instructions in 19th century script. Original folio, which was makeshift and discarded, carried annotation 'Possibly shawls rather than lace'. There is suggestion that James Templeton started making shawls in Paisley prior to his transfer into the carpet industry.
