Scope and Content

General file originally entitled AUT Branch Correspondence, Memoranda Etc. c. 1922-1948 . General file presumed compiled by the branch secretary, containing correspondence, memoranda, agenda and printed material from a variety of correspondents, including the central branch of the AUT, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, and other Local Associations such as Birmingham and Leeds. Also includes some copy correspondence sent by the Manchester branch of the Association.

File relates to a variety of matters, including social events, lunch-time lectures, accounts, membership and subscription, AUT rules and resolutions, income tax included a related report from the Superannuation Committee, and the proposed breakdown insurance scheme and legal fund for AUT members. The Grading Scheme and conditions of service, particularly for Grade III lecturers, and the admission of foreign students are also apparently key concerns

Part of the file is indexed: correspondence is indexed by subject, eg income tax, and then allotted its own individual number. Numbers range from 2-66.
