Scope and Content

French autograph manuscripts, 18th-20th century. The collection contains the less important material of great French writers, artists, etc., and the more important work of 19th and 20th century secondary writers. Some of the individuals represented are listed below:

Acquisition Information

The letters and papers came to the Taylor Institution Library during the librarianship of the late Donald Martell Sutherland, Librarian 1949-70. Many were purchased, with money from the Zaharoff Fund, from dealers' catalogues or in the course of numerous visits to bookshops both in England and on the Continent.
