Letter: Leo [Tate], Secretary of Commissions, House of Lords, S. W.1 to Sir Richard Williams-Bulkeley

Scope and Content

LETTER: Leo [Tate], Secretary of Commissions, House of Lords, S. W.1 to Sir Richard Williams-Bulkeley Bart., K. C. B replying to an enquiry regarding the appointment of magistrates. The Lord Chancellor hesitates to appoint any more Justices of the Peace than are required in the public interest, unless districts urgently need strengthening. If this is the case the Lord Chancellor will consider any recommendations forwarded. In war time however, there is rarely any addition to the Commission unless very special circumstances exist.
