Scope and Content

Under the will of Catherine Wilkinson of Upwell, Norfolk, widow, deceased, Robert Negus of Upwell, farmer (1st party) has an estate for his life in 17 acres in Cranemoor Fen, Manea, Cambridgeshire. Negus now mortgages this estate to William Pike Bays of Wisbech St Peters, gent (3rd party) in trust for Elizabeth Stevens of Wisbech St Peters, Cambridgeshire, widow (2nd party). By way of additional security, Negus further assigns to Stevens a policy on his own life which he has taken out with the Guardian Life Insurance Company of London. indentures, lease (for one year at peppercorn rent) signed and sealed by Negus, witnessed by Mary B Bays and Joseph Bree (?); duty stamp. Release in form of tripartite indenture of 2 membranes, signed and sealed by all parties, witnesses as in lease; duty stamps. Release endorsed with receipt for consideration money signed by Negus, same witnesses. Parchment supplied by Morris of Bermondsey, engraving by Silvester of The Strand.
