Industrial Training Ship 'Clio'

Scope and Content

The Clio, a ship stationed in the Menai Straits, was set up in 1877 under the Industrial Schools Act, 1866 (29 & 30 Viet., c.118), to train homeless and destitute boys from north Wales, the city of Chester, and the border counties for the mercantile marine service. The Denbighshire justices entered into an agreement with the school for the reception of boys from Denbighshire in 1880.
